Introduction

In 1999, the Forum of Labour Market Ministers' (FLMM) Labour Market Information (LMI) Working Group identified the need for an up-to-date resource guide to assist career and labour market information practitioners and professionals locate and use current electronic sources of economic and labour market statistics.

The Labour Market Information Resource Guide builds on the Labour Research Resource Manual last published by the Canadian Labour and Business Centre (formerly the Canadian Labour Market Productivity Centre) in 1990. This manual described sources of data that were systematically published and available on a continuing basis.

The world of LMI has changed considerably since the Labour Research Resource Manual was last published, notably with the increasing use of the Internet for disseminating information. This resource guide focuses on providing users with access to web sites that contain useful information for labour market forecasting, monitoring and research.

The Labour Market Information Resource Guide provides brief descriptions of web links to current information on major economic indicators, such as data and forecast information and financial indicators. It also provides access to web sites that contain labour market, social, demographic and workplace statistics, projections and information.
