The Honourable Jamie Muir MLA - Truro-Bible Hill Minister of the NS Department of Education Minister responsible for the Youth Secretariat Act

Jamie Muir graduated from Dalhousie University with Bachelor degrees in Arts and Education. He later earned Master's and Doctorate degrees in Education at the University of Virginia.

Mr. Muir's extensive professional experience includes being a high school teacher in Truro; lecturer at the University of Prince Edward Island; assistant professor at Memorial University in Newfoundland; principal of the Nova Scotia Teacher's College, and a faculty member in the education department at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. Mr. Muir was also the Director of Inspection Services of the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Inspector of Schools for the Cumberland and Colchester-East Hants schools.

Mr. Muir has been involved extensively in Community Service. He has held executive positions on a number of boards at St. Andrew's United Church, the Truro Junior "A" Bearcat Hockey team, Truro & Area Minor Baseball Organization, Truro Parks & Recreation Commission, Truro Sport Heritage Society (to name a few) and has canvassed for various charities.

Mr. Muir has been MLA for the constituency of Truro-Bible Hill, (which consists of the communities of Bible Hill, Millbrook, Salmon River and Truro) since March 1998, being re-elected in July 1999 and again in August 2003. Mr. Muir's Cabinet duties have included Attorney General; Minister of the Departments of Justice, Health and now Education. He has been Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization, the Human Rights Act, the Regulations Act and Part II of the Workers Compensation Act, and now also responsible for the Youth Secretariat Act.

Jamie Muir is married to Mary Jean and they have four adult children.
