Dr. Michael J. Prince

Professor Michael J. Prince holds the Lansdowne Chair in Social Policy at the University of Victoria in the Faculty of Human and Social Development. He is the inaugural occupant of this position, which he has held since 1987. Before then, Prince was for nine years a faculty member at Carleton University in the School of Public Administration.
Professor Prince's involvement in disability issues and the disability community began in the early 1990s. He is a frequent advisor and consultant to Canadian government agencies, parliamentary committees and disability organizations on matters of strategic thinking, policy reform and political analysis.
Prince is a Director on the Board of the BC Association for Community Living, a federation that advocates for children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities and their families to ensure justice, rights and opportunities in all areas of their lives.
For 2006-07, Prince is the chair of a national task force co-sponsored by the Canadian Association for Community Living and the Council of Canadians with Disabilities. Task force members include the Canadian Association of Independent Living Centres, the Neil Squire Society, and People First of Canada, along with community and university researchers across Canada. The aim of the task force is to build the capacity of disability community organizations’ policy research and knowledge mobilization.
